i have less than 400 in all my gear. its not about how much you spend on it, its quality of the product and finding a good deal at the same time. most expensive doesnt always mean the best.

If you opt for a two-piece, you can still do track days with no problem...I do. I would suggest a matched set, however, that has a full circumference zipper to attach the jacket to the pants if you plan on taking it to the track at some point.

^ this.

There are lots of affordable and good leathers out there. Fieldsheer and AVG being the first one that comes to mind. Or, you can go high dollar into the A-Star and S&S. All of them are going to protect you, but the higher dollar brands will probabaly have more features/comfort.

yeah, I may look at some fieldsheer and SGV stuff. Anything I buy is going to be a match set that zips together. The idea being that I can take it to the track even though it'll probably be a while before I ever go to the track.

fieldsheer is a great product for the price range it is in.

Good point, I almost bought a set just like them. But they didn't come with a cool sticker to put on my bike.

Check out motorcycle closeouts for the Axo's. I have the first generation and they were only $100, they feel great and have solid protection.

If you want some average riding pants pick up some draggin jeans. I have a pair and they're pretty comfortable, although I had to have them lengthened a bit.

Dead on. They also have a warehouse in Kansas City near the airport so you could try this stuff on. Take it from me, leathers do not all fit the same.
