That no helmet thing makes me chringe when I go to Kansas and see someone flying down the highway with no helmet. No helmet makes me feel off balance.

As far as the car and seat belt goes I think its a freak thing. I was in a car wreck when I was 16 as a passenger and the HP told me (sitting in the back) and my buddy ( sitting in the front) that if we had our seat belts on I wouldn't have walked away from the wreck (after being ejected out back window 110mph) as far as buddy they said would probably had to have reconstruction to his face cause the seat belt would of have puuled him back throught the windsheild.

I get a little weirded out when I see someone with out a helmet also, I was in phoenix last month and me and a friend went riding and some retard went flying past us on the highway with a wifebeater, shorts and no helmet.. it was the most stupid thing I've seen him weaving in and out of trafic like that.

Another somber reminder about seat belts. March 17 was a bad day.

One head-on crash in Callaway County killed one and seriously injured another. Neither driver was wearing a seat belt.

One crash in Miller County killed FOUR and seriously injured another. This was a one-vehicle crash. No one was wearing a seat belt. The four were killed when they were ejected from the overturning car.

99.9% of the time, ejection = death.

Buckle up, folks.

I am personally against 90% of the restrictive, "protect you from yourself" legislation placed on adults. I feel that we have gone way out of the way to save our idiots from themselves (even if that idiot is me in some cases). Don't get me wrong "I"(with emphasis) think its a horrible idea to ride without protective gear but that should be MY choice. Not one thats made for me by others......

i will second wood. I would never leave without a helmet and gloves but it should be my choice not the governments. But it should kind of be common sense to wear one if you are foolish enough to not wear one you can pay the price but it should be your choice.

I firmly agree with Wood, it's not the governments job to protect us from ourselves, but I still cannot imagine why somebody would not wear a seatbelt. It's not restrictive. It doesn't "hurt". It isn't going to trap you in your car while you burn to death.

Something I've noticed while reading the paper or watching television. Whenever they report a traffic accident, nearly 100% of the fatalitie stories end with " ______ was not wearing a seatbelt". There is no excuse for that. You have a responsibility to your family, friends, kids, fellow insurance policy holders, fellow tax payers, even the police and emergency workers that have to deal with your splattered brains if you don't wear one. Wear your seatbelts and helmets.

Naturally I would rather not have traffic fatalities for as simple of a reason than not wearing a helmet or seatbelt. It really sucks to lose anyone that way. As for someone who has to work the accidents like Desmo. I'm sure no matter how many times you come to an accident like that it has to hit home each and every time, I know it would for me. However, I do not feel the government is a suitable substitute for a solid decision making process, and when the government steps in people stop taking responsibility for their own actions.
