Good thing he had all his gear on, that could have hurt.

Not much to update. As it turns out, building a front end from scratch requires a lot of, umm....scratch. I had a wheel on the way as of mid Decemeber, but the seller just refunded my money. Apparently it got lost somewhere in northern Wisconsin and the USPS can't seem to find it. Right now I'm more concerned about getting the Duc out of the shop so I can take care of these random nice days
Was the busted boxer pic from high compression or just running the heads into the ground inside a right turn

It doesn't look like you are going to find one of those random nice days for a week or more. Too bad about the lost wheel, I hope that you can find another one elsewhere.

Holy shit. I cracked up when I read the last post of this thread.
So after a few months of deciding there were other more fiscally responsible things I could do than buy bits for the BMW, I came home to a remotely tire sized box that looked like it had been through hell and back. Long story short, I guess the USPS finally got their head out of their ass and found my wheel! The kicker is that the ebay seller had already refunded my money and I believe they even gave him money as insurance. Seller - Kept his $90 Paul - got refunded his $90 Wheel - Going on the BMW just as soon as he can get around to getting a new axle milled as well as a bottom triple. I'm planning on doing things like controls, brakes, upper triple, etc. last so I can get things like the tank and the general geometry set up first. I'm pretty pumped about being able to move the project along though. ![]() ![]() After this, the biggest worries I have are getting the right tank and getting the rear wheel spoked as well (GS assys are hard to find).

Well there hasn't been much activity on the board lately so I figured I'd share.
Big Dirty has a tank. I did a lot of ebaying just looking at various pics of various tanks before I found this one. I've seen a lot of Beemers that kept the stock R tank, but it was always too boxy for my tastes. The look I'm going for is a bit more sleek so the squared tank always looked really bulbous. Here's a pic of the old one on the bike. ![]() And here's a pic of the tank I just bought. ![]() I originally bought some USD forks with the lofty goal of redoing the front end, but the more I look around at photos and the more I plan on doing to the bike, the less inclined I am to work on the damn thing. The GSXR forks are fully adjustable though, so they may end up on the Duc If money was no issue I'd redo it all, no questions, but the K-bike forks that are on it look pretty cool as is, I'll just have to do some work on the brakes and axle becasue of the new wheel, not to mention respring the forks for my weight. The new tank's also going to need a new mounting setup. Progress though. Once I get the tank settled in I can work on building a new sub frame, get the hand controls and rearsets built, etc. Pumped.

Yeah the thought crossed my mind, but the body/frame on my bike is so low slung as it is it really didn't make sense. I'm keeping it all street.

In my quest to find a decent set of spoked wheels I did spend a lot of time on Advrider, yeah.
Just checked my favorites, there's a cafe thread on there that's up to almost 300 pages, with bad ass old cafe pics on every single one. Seriously, don't open it up unless you have some free time. Cafe racers [pics] - Page 283 - ADVrider
