Dang man your a madman!

You where riding a liter bike before where you not? even though its a standard it had more power than that 600 your riding now. I say go for it, your a very sensible rider, and if thats what you want to do I say more power to ya.

Thats just IMO. I havent owned one (I have ridden them) but they are a WAY different monster. They are scary insane fast, but again, I know you and your riding style and I think your a safe, sensible rider, the type that deserves to have a liter bike if he so chooses~

yeah my other bike was a 1000 ,but it was nowhere near the horsepower or the weight of a true supersport. It was very equal to what my r6 is as far as horsepower to weight ratio ,but thanks for the compliment on me being a sensible rider

I went from a 01 zx6e to a 05 zx6r. That was a big difference. After the zx6r I got a gsxr 1000 and that was a huge difference. You will be happy. It is a whole different world power wise. You will have to watch the 1000 if you ride hard on the street. They have tendency to "slide out" or come up on corners due to overpowering the road.

I went from an '89 Yamaha FZR600 to an '87 FZR1000. In the '80's, the liter bikes hadn't gotten the massive R&D attention they did in the 90's, largely due to the racing Superbike classes were using 750's. When the big racing class moved up to 1000's, the 750 class all but died (the GSX-R being the lone survivor) and the 1000's got all the love. So, my 1000 was a heavy tank compared to today's svelte, petite monsters.

Even then, moving up to an FZR1000 was an eye-opening experience. The first time I gave the throttle a hearty twist, the damned thing almost took off from underneath me, leaving me doing a Wil-E Coyote impression. As much respect as I quickly learned to have for that bike, I can only imagine what today's bikes will do. Maybe that is what drew me to twins...the power is still there, but it comes on much more evenly.

I'd be lying, however, if I said that some part of me doesn't love the idea of hammering a new R1 around a race track!

You are an experienced, mature rider, and I have no doubt you possess the restraint and common sense necessary for the upgrade. I say if it floats your boat, do it.

The 1000s just don't feel as nimble to me. Most are much larger than
thier 600 brothers most notably the gsxr. The power is awesome
but the truth is very few of us ride the 600's to peak performance.

i agree, 600's suffice and very few of us ride to the full potential. buuuuuuuuuuuuut
is owning a liter bike a hell of alot more fun. YES! i loved my gix1k and regret selling that sexy beast of a machine. i felt i could throw it around the corners just as fast as my 6. it wasnt as bulky as i expected and thankfully never punched it too hard coming out of a corner. i say go for it!

Go for it! Liter bikes are the only way to go! Power to weight ratio, the ungodly midrange power to redline is unlike anything you have every experienced. The bang for the buck on liter bikes right now is the CBR1000RR. I handles like a 600, and tons of power. Trust me I know I own 1. I also have a R1 and the CBR would run circles around it.
