Default Blowin' Sh%t Up!

Desmo and I talked about this the other day at the opening ceremony of the new Tuscumbia bridge, and thought it'd be a good idea to post it up incase anyone was interested in watching it.

Anyways, the old bridge will be blasted down Tue. August 31st at 8:30am if anyone wants to come and watch. The State will have a public viewing area.

Color me THERE! I will be on the red bike, not the blue one, so I will have to scrounge for a good spot like the rest of the commoners!

What happens to all of the twisted steel and rubble from the blast? Do you have to salvage it from the river, or does it just get left?

Yes, Ron it will all come back out of the river. It will all be blasted down in one shot, but will be in basically three sections once it is in the water. We will then take the crane with a clamshell bucket and a excavator out on the water and load all of it out of the river. There isn't really any rubble. We stripped all the old asphalt off the road surface, then slabbed the concrete deck and pulled it off with an excavator.

The State Environmentalist are pretty picky with the smaller rivers in Missouri and what goes into them and gets left behind. They do a pretty good job of trying not to upset the wildlife and their habitat.

Early this Spring we had to jump through hoops to make sure we didn't disturb the Swallows when they migrated up and laid their eggs. It was a complete pain.
